Are you getting the BLEND right?
I reckon the best thing about hybrid work is the BLEND.
It gives us an opportunity to spend some of the time using our technical skills and other time using our people skills.
When we’re working from home we can double down on the focused parts, the deep thinking and the strategy side of our role (oh and if you’re like me take an afternoon bush walk and plant a tree).
When we’re in the office, in-person we can focus on the connections, collaborations and strengthening our people-skills talking to real people saving time writing emails and making phone calls (and get to try Jo’s new cookie recipe out).
It’s kind of like great leadership.
It’s like great coffee.
And even like great makeup.
It’s all about the blend.
Great leaders know just how to get the blend right.
Great leaders work on developing a blend of competence in the strategy, planning and technical skills AND they couple this with the coaching, communication, emotional intelligence and the softer, human skills.
Have you ever worked for a leader that had all technical skills and no people skills? What was that experience like?
PS. I'd love to know what you think the best mix in a leader is – 50:50, 60:40 or something else?
PPS. I have a simple diagnosis tool where you can work out if you have the right blend of skills in your team – if you want a copy, let me know.
